A BOY FROM TUPELO – THE COMPLETE 1953-55 RECORDINGS contient pour la première fois dans une seule édition tous les enregistrements SUN connus d’Elvis, plus deux disques pour lesquels Elvis a payé de sa poche, ainsi que des prestations en concert et radiophoniques de l’époque. Ce coffret de 3 CD présente 10 morceaux inédits. 
Le livre qui l’accompagne n’est ni plus ni moins un carnet de route. Il détaille la naissance de la carrière d’Elvis à travers des faits, des anecdotes, des documents, de nombreuses photos rares, et un récit succinct. Le jour de l’Indépendance en 1954 marque le début de cette saga américaine, moins de 24 heures avant sa première session d’enregistrement professionnelle, et elle se termine en décembre 1955 quand les droits sur les bandes SUN d’Elvis expirent et que le chanteur quitte Sam Philips pour enregistrer chez RCA. C’est Elvis Presley avant qu’il ne devienne mondialement connu. C’est l’énigme de comment cet incroyable jeune homme se prépare à la célébrité, obtenant un succès d’un niveau que personne n’aurait jamais imaginé possible d'atteindre. 

Tous les audios ont été remasterisés et restaurés aussi bien que possible, mais la qualité du disque 3 est assez rudimentaire. Le livre de 30,5 x 30,5 cm contient 512 pages et inclut plus de 500 photos dont environ 200 sont inédites. Si vous n’êtes pas un expert sur cette période de la carrière d’Elvis, beaucoup de photos vous sembleront nouvelles. De nombreuses photos déjà connues sont éditées dans une qualité supérieure, mais puisqu’il s’agit d’un document historique, il y a aussi beaucoup d’images de moins bonne qualité qui ont été incluses pour leur rareté et comme illustration de l’histoire. Ce livre contient également, pour la première fois, les notes originales de Steve Shole sur les bandes Sun.
